Sophie Butler Hairdressing aims to bring a big city salon experience to its customers in the seaside town of St Andrews in Scotland.
The large salon is separated into several zones - including a coffee lounge in the center retailing homemade cakes and treats, a colour bar and a VIP space for anyone who requires some privacy. The salon even hands over the premises to yoga and pilates groups in the evening - originally for the staff, the classes proved so popular that clients now join them.
Sophie opened her first salon in 1999 with a four-chair premises in the heart of the town on South Street. Her next move was just around the corner to Greyfriar's Gardens where her salon thrived for 13 years, before the decision was made to move back to South Street.
"The reason to move into these new premises was the result of a couple of years of planning," said Sophie. "I had a desire to do something new and exciting, having very successfully traded for 13 years in my old place. We started off thinking about opening a second salon, maybe an urban gents salon or barbershop. During this process, 191 South Strret came available - it was perfect, and we knew it. I could immediately imagine the look of the new salon and we moved very quickly to secure the site. We also had a fantastic rapport with Charles Carr from CBC Salon Design who was just the ideal design partner in this project."
"It’s great to be back where it all started," she added. "We’re really in the heart of St Andrews, with the butcher, baker, florist, fruit and veg shop, newsagents, pub – all the traditional shops – around us."
