Shaping Futures is heading to Amman in Jordan for 2015, with a team of volunteer hairdressers jetting off in July to share their hairdressing skills.
The scheme aims to train underprivileged young people in the art of hairdressing, providing them with a craft which will in turn help them carve out their own career and earn their own living.
In previous years,
Shaping Futures has partnered with
SOS Children's Villages in India. For 2015 the project is expanding and partnering with the Princess Taghrid Institute in Jordan; a creative arts institute for orphans and abandoned young people.
A team of seven volunteer hairdressers will be giving up a month of their own time to work at the institute alongside Schwarzkopf Professional partner, Munir Sukhtain Group, providing an intensive course in cutting, colouring and blow-drying. At the end of the programme, they will be placed as apprentices within a large salon group in Jordan.
Janet Maitland, Shaping Futures ambassador says: "It’s going to be a new challenge this year with the change of location but a challenge that we’re all excited and willing to take! We’ve become quite familiar with the SOS Children’s Villages in India so this years trip to Jordan will definitely motivate the team and keep us on our toes! I am so excited to have such a fantastic team this year; we’ve got some real talent and some great teachers."
The team are:

Nikki Finnis, Schwarzkopf Professional ASK Advisor
Anthony McMeiken, Janet Maitland Hair Excellence
Paul Meekin, Partners Hair
