As suggested via his collection title, Nathan Cherrington's Neutrois collection looks to reveal a gender-neutral composition of six beautiful women.
While a thread of androgyny permeates the storyboard, the concept was not one of masculinising the female in frame, rather one of broadening the scope of what we perceive to be beautiful.
A true reflection of Nathan’s signature style, the collection challenges and explores the breaking down of conventional gender and beauty constraints to create something new and unexpected. Specifically, each image within the collection has been inspired by a classic icon or era from the past. Looks that have been originally attributed to a male subject are instead seen on six female faces, a juxtaposition that combines the familiarity of shape and form on an unexpected canvas.
From Andy Warhol to Jean Michael Basquiat, Nathan is able to demonstrate a broad variety of techniques from precision cutting to intricate braiding. Overall, graphic bold shapes and strong lines give a deconstructive edge, yet soft and casual sexiness to the collection.
