Now we’ve hit the colder weather and we’ve taken a look at the hair looks set to dominate this autumn, we can't help but wonder about this season's colour trends. Tom Smith shares his top autumn 2024 hair colour trend predictions.
Terracopper
As seen on the likes of Chappell Roan, this rich and intense terracotta, copper shade is high on the agenda this autumn. “This can be achieved all over as a global colour or can be done with a semi-permanent gloss on top of highlights or balayage,” says Tom. Suitability? This shade is “great for those clients with fairer complexions or those who have pink undertones to the skin as the warmth of this shade can help the skin to appear golden and rich,” Tom says.
Sunflower Blonde
Sabrina Carpenter, Sydney Sweeney, and Emma Chamberlain are just a few celebs who have been seen sporting the Sunflower Blonde look. “This is as warm as a blonde can be before it turns into a copper, the intensely golden shades have been trending for the entire year so far but continue to grow in popularity,” Tom says. “This shade typically works on naturally warmer skin tones of any depth and can be achieved as an all over colour, or incorporated as part of a highlight or balayage technique if depth and dimension is preferred.” Looking for some tips to transition your clients to warm blonde this autumn? Flamingo Pink
We’re talking vivid and intense that glows in the light. “This shade is ideal for those keen to make a bold statement,” Tom explains. “The hair needs to be pre-lightened to achieve this level of intensity and will fade to a softer pink gradually with each wash.”
It’s important to give your client maintenance advice in order to maintain the vibrancy of the shade. “Clients can wash their hair with cooler water, minimise heat styling, and you can also mix a customised pigmented conditioner to help retain the intensity,” Tom says.
Natural Greys
Either left out entirely or incorporated in as part of a hair colour design, we are seeing more and more references of natural grey hair. “In blonde hair, grey hair can brighten and increase reflection in the blonde, while naturally darker bases will find the greys stand out more and make more of a statement,” Tom tell us. “This is great for those clients who wish to honour their natural selves or who prefer a lower maintenance colour.”
As grey’s can be dryer in texture and more prone to frizz it’s important your clients have a good at home haircare routine. “Tell clients to combine a weekly deep cleansing shampoo with an intense moisture mask to reset any build up and soften and nourish the strands,” advises Tom.
Cinder Toffee Brunette
This rich and intense tone is perfect for your brunette clients this cosy season. “This shade glows with similar tones to sunflower blonde but works on deeper bases,” says Tom. “The tones are warm and combine chocolate, caramels and intense golds to give a reflective and youthful shine to the hair.”
Although this shade works well on all skin tones, it may feel too intense for those with naturally more sallow or golden tone complexions. To get the look? “This can be achieved with an all over colour or incorporated into a darker base with various dimensional tones in high or low lights.”
