Following the sad news of his passing, we take a look back at ten of the best Oscar de la Renta catwalk hair looks - from his punk Park Avenue princesses to a youthful spin on serious volume.
He was the king of old-fashioned glamour, as comfortable dressing First Ladies as he was film stars. Always refined, ever elegant, Oscar's gowns were true fairytale confections.
When it came to creating hair for his catwalk presentations, glamour was once again the watchword. Styles and finishes might have moved with the times and reflected current trends, but the end look was always beautiful.
Often created by session supreme Orlando Pita, hairstyles at Oscar de la Renta shows ranged from punk Park Avenue princesses to candy floss curls.
Here, we remember ten of our favourites.

Fall/Winter 2014[/caption]
Fall/Winter 2014 saw choppy shrunken bob wigs created by Orlando Pita. "I think it looks cool when you see Jennifer Lawrence in a gown and a cute haircut, rather than a hairdo," he said of the punky styles.

Spring/Summer 2014[/caption]
For Spring/Summer 2014, hair looked deceptively simple from the front - a centre-parted pleat by all accounts. Actually, it was an inverse French braid, plaited down the back of the head inside out and wrapped into a rosette at the nape of the neck - topped with a brooch. "As always, I tried to create hair that no one can do at home," laughed Orlando.

Spring/Summer 2013[/caption]
Arguably our favourite look, the Park Avenue princess goes punk neon chignons were an iconic part of Spring/Summer 2013's collection. The inspiration was Holly Golightly meets Keith Haring, created by Orlando weaving neon streaks into voluminous French twists.

Spring/Summer 2007[/caption]
He was famous for dressing First Ladies and other powerful women, so no surprise to see Oscar reinventing power hair. The mussed-up, windswept texture of this style keeps it youthful, while the rolled-under faux bobs make short hair easy for everyone.

Spring/Summer 2012[/caption]
These frizzy curls from Spring/Summer 2012 spell pure, unabashed romantic heroines - there's more than a hint of the Pre-Raphaelite in this look, although Stevie Nicks was also an influence to Orlando. Hair was set on pins in a zig-zag pattern, heated and left to cool before brushing out to create the larger-than-life volume.

Fall/Winter 2013[/caption]
Dual texture was key to this Winter 2013 look - although there were four styles in total, to work with each model's look. The inspiration was a girl who's been out dancing all week, said Orlando - perfectly-formed waves around the face and wet, lived-in lengths.

Fall/Winter 2012[/caption]
Pretty as a picture pinned under bobs were the look for Fall 2012, topped off with a dazzling bejewelled Alice band. Hair was split into two large horizontal sections and backbrushed thoroughly to create volume and texture. The lower section was then rolled under and pinned in place, with the top section draped over the top and secured.

Spring/Summer 2011[/caption]
Karlie Kloss was arguably Oscar's modern muse, appearing in countless catwalk shows for the designer. This 2011 look oozed vintage glamour with an elegant retro updo completing the look - and Karlie the ideal model to carry it off.

Fall/Winter 2010[/caption]
There's no denying the Farrah Fawcett influence in this deeply seventies-inspired style. Orlando set hair on large rollers to create the bounce and bend, before brushing out with a paddle brush to create mega-watt shine and movement.
