Shooting an award-winning image takes more than just technically-perfect hair - show-stopping styling, eye-catching makeup and fashion-forward photography all have to be considered to create the finished full package.
Here, we speak to the team responsible for creating an award-winning image at HJ's 2011 British Hairdressing Awards.
Hairdresser
"The hair, the make-up, the movement and the fashion styling all contributed towards this exciting total image. We called the collection Scorch as we feel the models and looks are too hot to handle!"
HJ's 2011 Southern Hairdresser of the Year, Bruno Marc Giamattei, Marc Antoni
Photographer
"This shot was one of 24 images taken over a thoroughly enjoyable fast-track, three-day shoot. It works perfectly for me - the model was unbelievable easy to photograph and the wind machine did just the right thing to add a session-feel to the hair. It's just one of those all-time great shots."
Andrew O'Toole
Journalist
"This fantastic image is truly captivating. The dark, voluminous lengths contrast perfectly with the neat plait and crown, which are intensely shiny. The wind in the shot lifts the hair perfectly and adds movement while the black and white styling and the model's expression add to the excitement."
Michelle Royle, Your Hair
Makeup
"I thoroughly enjoyed working on the Scorch collection. Following a season of light and pastel shades when it comes to make-up, I was able to let loose with more autumnal on-trend shades. The model wore the look well and the whole shot has an almost vintage feel."
Victoria Baron
Stylist
"I went against the usual styling ethics for a hair shot - bare shoulders and nothing too busy around the neck or shoulders. This tailored leopard print jacket worked well, especially in black and white."
