Patrick cameron brings trademark glitz to fellowship Patrick Cameron Brings Trademark Glitz to Fellowship Patrick Cameron is known for two things; exceptional hair-up and a fabulous, fun, all-engrossing approach to education. It was these qualities that he brought to the Wella World Studio this week for the Fellowship for British Hairdressing's latest masterclass. The sell-out show was hosted by Fellowship president, Errol Douglas MBE, who described Patrick as, "the head hairdresser of hairdressing," before continuing: "This evening has been so hyped, and for good reason. Patrick Cameron is an international star. He has inspired many generations of hairdressers and to have him here tonight for the Fellowship is very special." After taking a selfie with the audience in the background for Patrick’s 90,000 hairdressing followers, Patrick – who came over to the UK from New Zealand 27 years ago – went on to talk about his career. "People often ask me why I don’t do celebs or Hollywood stars," he said. "My answer to that is simply that I don’t want to. It’s hairdressers that I want to I work with and that’s what I love doing. The secret to my success is communication and encouraging the audience to come on the journey with me." [hji-gallery-legacy] Assisted by his senior trainer Jo Wilcox, Patrick created a host of his trademark spectacular - but simply explained - hair-up looks. "A lot of hairdressers are scared of working with long hair," said Patrick. "But it’s the artistry of our industry and it’s where we should be having fun." While showcasing a host of looks, Patrick chatted with Errol about where he'd like to take his training next. "South America – places like Brazil and Argentina – really appeal to me because they love glamour and dressing up. But where I’d love to really spread the wings of hairdressing is in India." Patrick’s work already takes him all over the globe and he stressed the importance of presenting in such a way that the audience is always aware of what's going on. "I like my audience to watch closely," he said. "I always talk one step ahead of what I’m doing so I can hook them in. Years ago, hairdressing on stage consisted of doing the hair one minute, explaining your technique the next. The two were never done together but that’s changed so much now and mastering the art of presenting like I do is very important in keeping an audience with you all through your show."
