Jennifer Cheyne
Scottish entrepreneur and founder of the Cheynes Hairdressing salon group in Edinburgh, Jennifer has been awarded an OBE for services to hairdressing and charity. She says: "I am totally surprised, honoured and absolutely delighted to receive such a prestigious award."
Jennifer launched Cheynes Hairdressing in 1976 and the group has grown into a six-salon chain, plus a training company, Cheynes Training, which has successfully delivered some 8,000 apprenticeship awards; and an advanced hairdressing academy, Cheynes Education.
Jennifer still travels to globe educating, as well as throwing herself into numerous charity commitments, including an appearance on Channel 4’s
The Secret Millionnaire.
Lino Carbosiero
Celebrity stylist Lino is creative consultant director at Daniel Galvin in London and counts Kelly Osbourne, Adele and Amanda Holden amongst his clients. He is also a tireless campaigner for State Registration for hairdressers. He was awarded an MBE for services to hairdressing.
One of Lino’s biggest passions is helping to train the next generation of hairdressers. Said Lino: “At Daniel Galvin we have created an intensive three-year training programme that all apprentices undertake, covering all aspects of hairdressing.”
On his recognition by Her Majesty the Queen, Lino said: “I am incredibly grateful humbled and passionate to continue my essential work within the hairdressing industry. I’d like to thank my family for their support and also my loyal clients, many of whom have been with me for more then 33 years.”
Martin Kolton
Martin was also awarded an MBE for services to the hairdressing industry, with a particular emphasis on youth training. Martin founded the Southend-based Central Hairdressing Academy in 1983 and his academies have gone on to qualify some 20,000 hairdressers.
In 1987, in partnership with the late Joshua Galvin, he opened the first Joshua Galvin Academy in East London, offering hairdressing students the chance to work in top salons.
Martin paid tribute to his business partners and team, who between them assist hundreds of young people in achieving their career goals each year as the largest NVQ Level 2 training provider in the UK.
Said Martin: “I was very surprised and moved to find out that I was to receive this prestigious accolade, but the reality is without my business partners and the team around me, Central Training Group would not have grown into the organization it is today.”
