My new hair to go global
Trevor Sorbie's phenomenal charity initiative My New Hair is set to go global with the support of L'Oréal Professionnel.
The charity, which cuts and styles wigs for cancer patients, was created by Trevor after his sister-in-law lost her hair while undergoing treatment for cancer.
Since its launch, My New Hair has trained more than 450 hairdressers to cut and style wigs for cancer patients while coaching them in the emotional skills that are need to give women a sense of hope and dignity during a time of suffering.
Trevor has long spoken of his desire to help cancer patients further afield and has a clear mission statement on his website that states: "My personal goal is also a passionate promise. To make this service accessible to women around the UK and long term around the world."
Receiving the HABB Humanitarian Award at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing President's Night 2012, he revealed that goal is set to become a reality.
"I was invited to Paris to meet with An Santos [An Verhulst-Santos, General Manager of L'Oréal's Professional Products Division] and I explained to her a little about what My New Hair does.
"Over lunch I said to her 'if we worked together perhaps...' and she stopped me and said 'no Trevor, when we work together we can make this worldwide.'"
