With the Blumarine SS16 collection as his starting point, Eugene set out to create a hair look that would off-set the ultra-feminine floral aesthetic with something much tougher and rawer, with an edgy, lived-in texture.
“There’s a nod to that 80's Brooke Shields, Jerry Hall look, but it’s grungy and cooler, and there’s a rawness about it that feels much more contemporary. It’s not about perfection – it should look like it was perfect at one time but after a few days it’s much looser and lived-in.
This look is all about the contrasting textures. It’s wet at the front and swept to one side to give it a slightly tough, masculine edge, then it graduates into a satin-like texture before becoming drier and drier through the lengths to an almost weathered, processed texture at the ends.”
Get the Look
To create his base texture, Eugene sprayed
Wella Professionals EIMI Perfect Setting into the hairline of damp hair and used his hands to sweep it to one side, away from the face.
At the back, he divided the hair into two vertical sections and created two soft twists which he sprayed with
Wella Professionals Stay Essential Hairspray then pinned to the top of the head before blow-drying.
“What this does is give you a texture that has some movement and a soft, natural wave without looking like it’s been in a roller. Basically, you’re using the hair as the roller; twisting it around itself to create the movement and texture naturally.”
Once dry, Eugene let the hair down and raked through it with his fingers, shaking from side-to-side to let air into it and rough-up the texture.
Next, he sprayed more hairspray close to the roots at the hairline to create wetness, using his palm to smooth it back sharply, then finished the lengths with W
ella Professionals EIMI Ocean Spritz for added texture.
