HJ's 2014 British Hairdresser of the Year Mark Leeson showcased his latest techniques, styles and colour at an intimate evening with Goldwell.
Held at The Courthouse Hotel in the heart of London, the multi-award winner talked about his inspirations, motivations and aspirations, as well as present eight models with stunning cuts and colours.
Talking about his love of hairdressing, Mark revealed it was an article in HJ about Trevor Sorbie winning the British title in 1985 that spurred him on to become one of the most exciting hairdressers of his generation. "British hairdressing is number one in the world and hairdressers everywhere are looking to us for inspiration, trends and techniques," he explained.
Already a success in the competition world, Mark channelled his talent into photography and the commercial world with consumer-friendly hairstyles and creative colour choices - and won a plethora of awards.
He brought hair to life with subtle colour and daring cuts - pastel pink pixie crops, lilac fringes, pistachio undercuts.
Mark, who is a big fan of vintage techniques, talked about the importance of learning the old school techniques such as finger waves and pin curl setting, "you never know when you might need to use it in a modern way," he explained.
Creating three looks on long luscious hair, Mark explained the correct way to backcomb. "It is something hairdressers use all the time but not necessarily properly." Taking a section of hair, he used a tailcomb to push the hair down twice in short bursts, then one long one before spraying for hold.
