Texture and softness were prevalent at the Mahogany Salon Seminar where they treated the audience to the first glimpse of their new collection, KookyWaifs.
Inspired by the pre-World War 1 Art Nouveau movement, the couture looks emphasise free-flowing lines with prominent use of Japanese-inspired whiplash curves or ‘waifs’. These were married with more geometric shapes taken from the art deco movement to create tailored clean shapes with kooky disconnected scoops of length.
Disconnection is key to creating the kooky feel to the hair styles and Senior Creative Director Neil Atkinson explained that this everyday technique can be personalised to create your desired finish – whether couture or commercial.
”Disconnection is in everyday use. It’s pretty much a classic technique, but how you place the section will give you the finish you are looking for.
“When you place those sections you’re thinking about the balance, the form the function and where you want to see length,” he said.
All eight looks that were cut live on stage along with the six beautiful model presentations, were complemented by free-flowing and fluid colours in gradient shades.
Tai Walker, Head of Colour, explained: “The sectioning and the ideas meant we needed to step away from regimented colour placement, we worked with cleverly-placed slices to create the kooky finish.”
Hues varied from a stunning silver, through shades of peach, butterscotch and champagne to stronger shades of copper, petrol blue and magenta. They were all tied together with a phenomenal mirror-like shine.
Anthony explained that it is this glossy finish that behaves as the best possible advertisement for your salons.
“In these testing times you need to be commercial as well as creative. If you can use a product that makes hair shine like glass that is going to be liking a walking advert for your salon,” Anthony said.
While Tai revealed the secret of the finish: “We apply Fibreplex to every colour as it leaves the hair in beautiful quality and your get an incredible shine.”
And shine the collection did - not just in the stunning glossy colour, but also in the cool and quirky, yet soft and feminine and eminently wearable styling. A real triumph for Kook.
