NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK Annette Hanford and Sasha Lill report on three of the newest treatments and products from: Clarins; Germaine de Capuccini; and Pattrena. germaine.jpg Germaine De Capuccini GERMAINE DE CAPUCCINI Germaine de Capuccini has launched the second of its luxury pampering treatments from the Spa Marine Privilege line. germaine%202.jpg Just as the Spa Gold Therapy (a revitalising and energising treatment) was inspired by the sun, so the Spa Pearl Face and Body Therapy is inspired by the moon (represented here by pearl) with its calming serenity and reflective properties. This deeply relaxing and harmonising 90-minute treatment (RRP £70) uses the curative properties of pearl – rich in minerals, proteins, amino acids and polysaccharides, to help boost cell renewal and provide anti-ageing, revitalising and firming results, and leave the body with a beautiful, pearlescent sheen. Like all Germaine therapies, the experience begins with a ritual to help the client relax, while a massage with holistic pindas of semi-precious and onyx stones, helps calm and detoxify. After the face is cleansed and toned, the body is gently exfoliated with Pearl Essence Powder – a ‘dry’ exfoliator (water transforms it into thousands of crystalline micro-sponges) that does not require shower facilities. A 10-minute massage with Pearly Essence Serum on face, neck and décolletage follows, to hydrate and tone. Next a wrap, based on white pearls (chosen for their light-reflecting, hydrating and firming properties) is applied (either cool or warm) to the whole body and hands, while Black Pearly Wrap (a more refined form of pearl to help dehydration, flaccidity and skin fatigue) envelops the face. While these take effect, the pindas are used to give a head and scalp massage on pressure-points around the body. The treatment ends with the application of Magic Pearly Emulsion – a moisturising finishing product with similar properties to the wrap, which leaves the skin with a pearlescent sheen. Accompanying the treatment are four homecare products. Pearl Sensation provides nourishment, firmness and hydration to the skin; Cashmere extract (leaves a silky feel); pearl powder and hydrolyzed nacar (rich in minerals, proteins, amino acids and polysaccharides); optimal cellular essence (bio-technological ingredients of marine origin that give ‘new life’ to cells); and radiance defence complex (a balancing concentrate to reinforce the epidermis’ self-defence), are included in the products. The anti-ageing quartet comprises: * Two facial products (Pearl Sensation Multi-Perfection Cream and Emulsion): a cream for those in need of a richer texture, suitable for normal to dry skin (RRP £45/50ml jar) and an emulsion for normal to combination skin, with a lighter texture that is rapidly absorbed (RRP £82/100ml pump bottle). Both offer extreme hydration, oxygenation and help boost cell renewal. * Pearl Sensation Multi-Perfection Intensive Programme (RRP £144). A treatment consisting of 15 vials of intensive serum (sufficient for one month) to boost cellular functions and ‘shock’ skin to hydrate and boost fibroblasts. It works against the signs of extreme skin fatigue that are difficult to alleviate with daily treatments. * Pearl Sensation Body (RRP £94.40/200ml). A deeply hydrating and nourishing body cream with reflective particles that instantly alleviates tightness associated with dry skin, while giving it firmness. TEL: 0845 600 0203 CLARINS With massage undoubtedly the most popular beauty treatment, it’s imperative to stay ahead of the game with the latest techniques and demands to ensure your clients keep coming back for more – as well as addressing their ever-changing needs. clarins.jpg As part of an exercise to update its treatment line, Clarins has developed two new 80-minute signature massage treatments, offering clients either Chill Out or Wake Up options. The treatments can be tailored to a client’s mood and their individual requirements – such as which areas of the body they would like the therapist to concentrate more (or less) on – and are backed by corresponding products containing relaxing or invigorating essential oil blends. The Chill Out massage uses much slower movements with Clarins’ new Pro-Formula Relax Body Oil, rich in soothing basil, camomile and petit grain essential oils, while the Wake Up massage uses quicker movements and a new Tonic Body Oil featuring an energising blend of rosemary, mint and rosewood. “Each signature massage is incredibly thorough as it treats the entire body, from the tips of the toes to the top of the head, easing muscles and boosting lymphatic and blood circulation,” explains Beverly England, Clarins UK treatment specialist. She says the accompanying new consultation form gives therapists the opportunity to explore a client’s needs and uncover their tension hot spots. “The massage procedure gives us the flexibility to adapt and provide bespoke speed, pressure and focus. “Because the therapist’s hands are in constant contact with the client, even when we apply the warmed Pro-Formula Tonic or Relax Body Oil, the movements are seamless, and the massage is much more fluid and flowing.” Instead of concentrating on small areas (such as legs or arms) like many traditional techniques, the new massages incorporate long, sweeping movements – literally from head to toe. To further aid relaxation, a heat-controlled under-blanket is used during the treatment, the client’s feet are cleansed and enveloped with a warm towel, and an eye-pillow is provided while the front of the client’s body is massaged. Being able to tailor the treatments to address individual needs is the key to their effectiveness: even though the massages incorporate set procedures, the diversity of each clients’ needs means it is unlikely the therapist will ever perform the same massage twice.
