Jamie stevens creates wigs on the hj stand

One of the biggest challenges facing any hairdresser who wants to create fantastic shapes and colours is being restricted by model's contract. To solve this, ghd creative director Jamie Stevens, has come up with his own way of creating wigs that give the freedom to create, which he showcased on the HJ Stand at Salon International.

1. Create two ponytails at the base of the hairline, plait and wrap around the head
2. Cover everything in clingfilm as it has good suction
3. Wrap in an old pair of tights or a wig cap
4. Start to stick pre-coloured wefts of hair working in from the sides upwards to the crown.
5. As you get to the crown use a pin as a pivot to create a straight line.

Compered by twelve times British Hairdresser of the Year nominee Errol Douglas and with a guest appearance from the F.A.M.E. Team, who had already benefited from the technique, Jamie created two great looks in the season's must have colours of violet and orange.

Having created his wig in deep brown and purple, Jamie produced a drawing of the models features which he covered the face with as a guide, before wowing the crowd by cutting into the shape with clippers enabling the violet tones to come through.

As he unveiled his eye-catching creation, he urged hairdressers to go out and buy wefts of cheap hair - real of course - and to play around with it.
