Steven-Carey-turbans1.jpg"Anything goes in avant garde," that was the key message from Steven Carey who, assisted by three junior members of his art team, created looks from his Turban Collection on the HJ Stage.

Dior recently sent models dressed in turbans to the catwalk dressed and Steven and his team decided to recreate that look using hair in place of the fabric.

On stage Steven's young team - who had less than three years' hairdressing experience between them - set about bringing three of the turbans to life: a rustic turban of a snake charmer, an African turban and a ladies of Babylon elegant number.

Steven-Carey-turbans2.jpgThe Turban Collection had taken nine months to create and Steven emphasized the importance of research, preparation and pre-preparation in creating great avant garde hair.

Meanwhile the youngsters applied layer after layer of crimped wefts, pin-curled wefts and doughnuts to build up the dramatic shapes.

As the finished looks were revealed Steven spoke of his passion for creating strong avant garde looks. He said: "People forget how exciting avant garde hair can be.

"But you can't get it wrong with avant garde, just be creative and if an idea doesn't work just be strong enough to get rid of it."

Come back soon for more pictures from Steven's amazing Turban collection.
