While 70s shapes and vibrant colours were popular on many catwalks, a separate trend emerged for Spring/Summer 2011.
Neutral shades of nude, oatmeal and cream provide an elegant alternative to Summer's rainbow brights, and simple hair styling completes the look. The masters of minimalism are Calvin Klein and Celine, where centre-parted, low ponytails added to the puritanical style.
Already popular with low-maintenance ladies like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Bosworth, simple styling calls for quality condition, to ensure a look that's more luxe than lacklustre.

Claire Dawson from the HOB Salons creative team comments: "The puritanical look is a clean and simple trend that encapsulates Spring/Summer 2011. The key to recreating this look is to keep it as simple and sleek as possible."
"Create a strong focal point for the style with a pristine centre parting or, for a softer edge, take it to the side. For a more wearable look, the romantic ponytail is easy to recreate, yet still encapsulates that haute-couture feel."
"Smooth flyaway strands and gather hair at the nape of the neck, securing loosely for a delicate finish. To add some texture to the look, backcomb through the crown before securing, and then gather at the nape to finish. Teamed with either a centre or side parting, this look is more undone and less structured."
