As the definitive event for hairdressing professionals, it's no surprise that trends for the industry are born at Salon International. Here are the hottest shades we spotted at this year's show.

The surprise hit of the show? Teal, as seen at shows including Saco and presented by teams including the FAME Team and Fellowship Shooting Stars.

Whether used for a show-stopping global application or in peekaboo panels, this statement shade is an on-trend choice for colour-conscious clients.

Sharp crops in jewel-toned shades of red remain a favourite, with bobs and head-hugging shapes all getting a red revamp.

Shades from tomato red by L'Oréal Professionnel (left) and deep ruby at Marc Antoni (right) prove the depth of hues available for this striking trend.

Pink continues to be a favourite for more extrovert characters, with candyfloss hues proving that the pastel trend is still going strong.

At Sanrizz a glossy global Pepto Bismol shade brings a fashion edge to a classic bob, while at Schwarzkopf Professional a baby pink hue adds a modern twist to a retro-inspired updo.

The ClubStar artistic team used varying shades of pink to complement a crimped look, for a style inspired by Jem and the Holograms, while Tim Hartley used a wash of baby pink to soften an edgy undercut.

A classic box bob proves the perfect canvas for colour, with both the L'Oréal Professionnel and Sassoon teams using chunks of paintbox-brights through the fringe.

While L'Oréal Professionnel highlight a rounded fringe with vibrant orange, Sassoon use deep scarlet to make a statement on a simple shape.

For a more subtle but equally striking effect, oil-slick shades were woven through the fringe at both Philosophy and Saco.

Fine bands of blue, green and purple are woven through the fringe panel in both cases, adding extra dimension to a glossy black base.
