TIGI Global Creative Director, Nick Irwin is a regular backstage at shows across the globe and has worked with some of the biggest names in the fashion industry - including Vivienne Westwood and Donatella Versace.

Here we ask Nick about trends, inspirations and how to survive the weird and wonderful world of fashion week.

1. What are the five key items/products in your kit you couldn't survive without?

  • Catwalk by TIGI Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo
  • Mason Pearson brush
  • Elastic on a reel
  • Hair Glue
  • Pins

2. What trends are you predicting for A/W 2012?

I think we'll be seeing 1950s-inspired hair, influenced by the likes of Judy Garland. I'm also predicting a lot of braids, with added focal texture. There might be a hint of the Argentinian Gaucho going on too.

3. What was your favourite show last season?

Mara Hoffman. I was instantly inspired by the fabric and thought Frida Kahlo. I entwined strips of the fabric through braids and coiled them around the head - it's a great look for Summer.

4. What's your favourite trend for S/S 2012?

The slightly trashed, late 1960s-inspired looks we created at Chris Benz in New York. I really loved the texture.

5. Three top tips for getting involved with session work?

  • Master the classic techniques - your hairdressing skills need to be as perfect as possible.
  • Try and assist session hairdressers you admire.
  • Research constantly and make your own moodboards to stay inspired.

6. Top London Fashion Week post-show hangout?

Home! It's too full on and the days are long. I like to see my family.
