The Aveda Institute Covent Garden
has housed an urban beehive on its roof for the last three years in a bid to support the insects - who are to thank for almost 70% of the food on our plates in one or another.
Thanks to the growth of the bee population on the roof of the Aveda Institute in the heart of central London, they recently had to be relocated - as with humans, bee families grow and overcrowding leads them to seek pastures new.
Their change of residence hasn't lead to Aveda giving up their support for bees, however. The ecologically-sound company have given the rooftop garden of the Covent Garden Institute a makeover, aiming to create a safe-haven for bees and a peaceful space for staff and guests.
A wide variety of plants and herbs have been added to the space, all inspired by Aveda's own product offerings and all chosen to make the space a bee-friendly habitat.
