Colour is the ultimate finishing touch for any cut, transforming the entire mood of a look. Here, a mousy blonde cut gets a fashion-forward update courtesy of Vic Piccolotto - and we'll show you how to get it.

1. Before

2. Perform the appropriate skin tests prior to the service. Apply protective clothing and apply barrier cream to guard.

3. Section the hair into four quadrants, taken from the centre front hairline to the nape and then tip of ear to tip of ear.

4. Apply bleach with 9% oxidant, 30 volume. Start with the back right-hand quadrant and apply to the outline perimeter. Apply 1cm of product on the brush for ease of application. Do not overlap the colour. Work the colour to the area just before where the regrowth meets the previous colour. This allows for the swell of the product and a seamless gradient.

5. Start at the top of the quadrant and work with fine sections applying product to the regrowth. Lay each section on the previous section. Apply to the top of the section and then underneath for appropriate saturation. Once this quadrant is complete, carefully bring it down and slightly lift the hair to help the colour oxidise and develop.

6. Repeat the same process on the second back quadrant, left front quadrant and top quadrant. As before, work to just a few millimetres from the regrowth, allowing for the swell of the product for a seamless blend. Once you reach the hairline use light, clean brush strokes.

7. Repeat the same process on the second side.

8. Process according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
