10 tips for planning an education programme Sanrizz trainingAs Sanrizz launches its new Network Education scheme, founder Tony Rizzo offers 10 top tips on planning an effective education programme.
  1. Think about the course content
What would you like your staff to be able to pass onto others after completing the course? What are your objectives? Think about areas such as Cutting, Styling, Hair Care, Colouring, Fashion Techniques, Communication. How much time do you have? Hours, Days, Weeks, Months? What about your Experience Levels – Foundation, Advanced, Finishing…
  1. Pick your venue and location
It’s extremely important the education takes place at a venue where your staff will feel comfortable yet inspired, and ensuring the venue is easily accessible and close to shops and cafes is key. Accessibility enables your team to be prompt and gives them plenty of places to ‘re fuel’ during breaks.
  1. Ask for information up front
It is usual for Academies to send out a briefing pack to you. This is very good way for them to understand your expectations and gain a good knowledge of their future student’s capabilities prior to the course in order to plan course content accordingly. Ask if this is a service they offer, if they do it shows they are really interested in you and getting the most out of the time they spend with your staff.
  1. Think about your budget
Take into consideration your objectives, experience levels and time scales when researching the market.  What courses are being offered? Do they match your requirements? Do they match your budget? If not don’t be afraid to ask whether a bespoke course can be tailored to match your needs and more importantly budget.
  1. Make sure there is a brand synergy
Does their overall image match your own? Do you aspire to be able to emulate the style of work produced by the Academy?
  1. Consider the student/teacher ratio
Ask them what the student to teacher ratio is for the course you are interested in. This will always depend on the type of course and experience level of the students, but it is good to be aware to make sure you are happy with the ratio before committing.
  1. Ask about extra services
What other services does the academy offer? A top academy should be able to assist you with just about anything you need to ensure you have a successful course. For example organising translators if required, hotel recommendations (most have preferred rates at nearby hotels so it’s worth asking about this), etc.
  1. Ask about any hidden extras?
It is important to establish a final cost early on as you don’t want to be hit with any hidden costs at the last minute. For example, do you need head blocks for practical sessions, visuals, displays as these are all likely to be at an additional cost.
  1. Don’t be afraid to make a deal
Establish a good relationship with the provider. Let them know if you are planning to do multiple courses through the year or if it will be annually. This helps to ensure you get the best offer as they are then able to look at your business as a whole before quoting. Consider the long term benefits in investing in education.
  1. Enjoy Whilst Learning
The most important thing is that you feel you’ve chosen an academy who are not only going to deliver the content but are going to be capable of making the experience enjoyable at the same time. Students who are engaged with course content are students who will take the most away from it. Sanrizz Network Education is a year-long programme launched to celebrate the brand’s 35 years of success in education and devised by Tony Rizzo. The programme offers salons nine days of education across the year at their top London academy.
