New research about beauty spending habits reveals that British women lie to their partners about what they spend on looking good - cutting around two thirds off the actual sum.
The study by
Hairtrade.com found, on average, that women only admit to 34.2% of their actual expenditure - with trips to the hairdresser the most lied-about service.
More than half of women polled - 57% - admitted to fibbing to their partners about how much they spent at the salon, with more than one in ten also remaining tight-lipped over the cost of hair products.
One woman who took part in the study said: "If my husband found out how much I spent at the hairdressers he’d be surprised.
"He has no idea how much a regular cut and colour costs although he always comments on how good it looks after I’ve spent a few hours in the hairdressers chair. I think it’s money well spent – if I look good, I feel good."
Beauty appointments and manicures were second and third on the survey, with skincare lotions and potions the most lied-about products.
