Hairdressers and salon owners share their top tips for designing a hairdressing salon website. From what company designed it, to what content features on it, here's some insight into the world of salon websites.
Francesca Dixon, creative colourist at Hari’s Hairdressers says: Hari’s hairdressers uses
Pixelated Orange to organise the layout of the website. I write the blog each month under the What’s Hot section. Our styling creative director also updates the site with pictures and styling trends. For my own personal website, I use
Square Space which I simply log into and change all myself. It allows me to add photos, connect my Instagram and blog. It’s simple but effective and very user friendly!
Jay Birmingham, celebrity extensionist and wig specialist: My website was designed by my PR Company, AJC93. I understood the importance of having a website that reflects me as an individual but also as a brand. I wanted something that could be updated on demand when information was changing and could be designed to my own personal specifications. My website was designed to be simple yet sophisticated and to inform my clients. I didn't want to overload the website with information but wanted to make sure that clients could find out exactly what they wanted at the click of a button. It was also crucial that the website linked to all my social channels.
Michael Smith, director, Tristan Eves: I made the decision to keep our website simple at first with a holding page giving the vital information of contact, location and opening hours. It was only after two and half years that I felt we were established enough to proceed and launch our full website. We worked on our website for 9 months and in order to lend it longevity coupled with point of difference, we commissioned an artist to produce single continuous line drawings of women and men’s heads/hairstyles. I feel this has given us a distinctive brand identity and whilst suggesting that of course we do hair – we don’t instill a specific hair style or colour on to the client. We also spent a long time selecting the colour palette. We have carried these through on to our in-salon branding and gifts. Everything joins up. We worked with our PR consultants Gorgeous PR to write the copy then appointed a company called
Target Ink to create a simple, easy-to-navigate site that links to our social media feed which in turn keeps our gallery looking fresh and relevant.
Sian Haynes, owner of Inspire Beauty: My website was designed by
Salon Guru. Initially I created the website myself using template software, leading to a WordPress site but it became very difficult to manage the website. It made sense to outsource this to professionals as it is such an important part of our business. After some investigation I deemed Salon Guru to be the best providers for what I needed. It’s great because I can update small things if I need to and the company will show me how to do anything that I am unfamiliar with. Salon Guru adds to its offerings regularly, such as late deals and in-salon wifi.
