Trevor sorbie visits southampton and cowes for my new hair

The nurses at the Southampton Hospital Macmillan Centre were in for a treat when Trevor Sorbie visited the hospital to talk about his charity My New Hair - the charity that offers wig-cutting services to those suffering from hair-loss due to illness or alopecia.

trevcuttingwig.jpgThe nurses watched as Trevor worked on Jane Smith and her bobbed wig. Said Trevor: "Many wigs have too much hair on them which can make them look unnatural so I start by thinning out the style.

"You don't use regular scissor on wigs, just razors and thinning scissors otherwise you'll create fake-looking lines."

The problem that the charity faces is that the quality of wigs offered through the NHS can vary drastically depending on where a person lives, as Trevor explained: "Wigs have improved but we want to work with the NHS to ensure that people have access to better quality wigs and are aware that they can get the wig customised by a My New Hair trained hairdresser."

herbUKandTrev.jpgHairdressers are also trained in how to work with the hair as it grows back and the charity is sponsored by Herb UK - The gentle nature of the products means that they can be used on hair re-growth and sensitive scalps after six months.

Trevor now dedicates his time to cutting wigs for sufferers at no charge. "I'm in the privileged position that I can offer this service but for other hairdressers, it's reasonable to charge a normal hair-cutting service charge."

boat.jpgAfter the trip to the hospital, Trevor and the team including Rick Farrant, commercial director and Reoul Perfitt, MD, Herb UK, headed over the water to the Isle of Wight to see the new eye-catching My New Hair spinnaker sail onboard racing yacht 'Boomerang' at Cowes Week, the famous sailing competition.

Trevor was also joined on the boat by Lauren Ford, Level Hair & Beauty, Ryde, who had cancer a couple of years ago and lost her own hair. "I bought a basic wig from the internet and customised it myself without knowing the correct techniques.

"Then I read about My New Hair in HJ and signed up for the course immediately. There was no service like it on the Isle of Wight and now I can help people here to get through the difficult time that I experienced first hand," she says.

Trevor's work has changed his own life dramatically. "I used to want to be remembered for my high-fashion and celebrity work but now I just want to be known for making a real difference with My New Hair, it's more fulfilling than anything else I've ever done in my career." he says.
