Move over
#grannyhair, there's a quirky new trend in town: half and half hair colour, where hair either side of the parting is coloured with a different shade - the more dramatic the better.
The Cruella De Vil look is nothing new, but it's currently enjoying a major moment in the spotlight, thanks in part to a host of Instagram beauty addicts who've dabbled with the trend.
Here, we take a look at ten takes on the trend - will you be trialling it in your salon?

1. Shei from
America's Next Top Model had one of the most dramatic makeovers in the show's history, trading blonde hair for a dramatic split monochrome look.

2. The look isn't just about black and white hair, as Kesha proved with this candy-coloured two-tone look in November 2013.

3. The trend arguably took off thanks to Instagram, where there are almost 30,000 pictures already with the tag #halfandhalfhair. One of our favourite looks is by
@jelkajpg, whose immaculate two-tone colour has made headlines.

4.
Australian Hairdresser of the Year Damien Rinaldo included this striking split-hair look in his award-winning collection, which we featured earlier this year.

5. Singer Melanie Martinez found fame on the US version of
The Voice in 2012 and has been rocking variations on the split-hair trend since. As well as two-tone looks, she's also combined horizontal stripes for
a truly dimensional look.

6. Martyn Holmes shot this
collection in 2012, pairing the pristine parted colour with an equally statement box bob.

7.
Vlogger Sydney Nicole is another
Instagram #halfandhalfhair favourite, earning her some 6,000 followers for her striking look.

8. This two-tone colour by Tyler Johnston and Lesley Lawson for Schwarzkopf Professional combines split colour with a split style - we love it.

9. This
Trevor Sorbie Artistic Team shoot from 2006 demonstrates a different, but equally dramatic, take on perfectly split hair colour.

10. The original and best, Cruella De Vil was brought to life in a 1961 Disney film, following the publication of
The Hundred and One Dalmations by Dodie Smith in 1956. In the very first chapter of the book she is described as having, "hair... parted severely down the middle... one half of it was black and the other white - rather unusual."
