Thinking about travelling to Miami in 2022? Read on to learn all about the
salon culture in Miami and everything you need to know about the USA ESTA required to get there. This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Electronic Visa Solutions.
A spokesperson for Electronic Visa Solutions says: "Most of the time we travel to get away from daily life, but when you love what you do, as many hairdressers do, it is always nice to use that time on holiday to get inspired. Travelling abroad helps you not only to relax and unwind, but to see how things work in other places, to broaden your horizons. So it only makes sense that travelling can be a way to inspire you in your daily life, perhaps to take ideas from another place and apply them to your own line of work. If you are planning a holiday to the USA, then you should take a few things into account, such as what kind of holiday you want, where in the USA you want to travel, and whether you can apply for an ESTA, which is usually much easier (and cheaper) to apply for than a visa.
When it comes to travel destinations in the USA, a holiday in Miami is as dreamy as it gets. With outstanding beaches, a bustling nightlife, great shopping as well as a unique blend of culture that simply isn’t available in any other part of the USA. This mix of metropolitan city, urban landscape, and cultural melting pot make for an ideal place to get inspired not only in your personal life, but for when you return to the salon. Make sure to set aside a bit of quality time for yourself to visit a salon or barbershop to pamper yourself and see what the beauty scene is like in Miami.
Miami is a large city with a great mix of cultures, and the predominately Latin American community creates a sort of stepping stone towards the attitude this city takes on everything from schedules to beauty regimens. One thing that is for sure, the culture around hair salons and getting your hair done is big. There is no shortage of hair salons, ranging from high-end boutique salons in well-to-do areas like Coral Gables, Brickell and South Beach to small, no frills, locally owned salons very likely run by people from different backgrounds who have a lot of experience with different hair types.
Like any big city, you can find all kinds of diverse people and hairstyles. From a hairdresser’s perspective, it is very important to understand many hair textures because the city is simply such a large melting pot with people from all walks of life. For many in this community, it is common to spend a few hours at the salon on Saturday and go out that night (hopefully it isn’t too humid!). For a lot of these clients, their hairdresser is their friend and confidant. Blow dry culture is very big, and many people choose to have their hair done by a professional in order to fight the hot weather and still look good.
On the heels of the pandemic, salons focusing mainly on blow-drying have actually, despite the odds, persevered. Many people, especially in hot and humid Miami, simply love that unique touch of a qualified stylist using only a blow-dryer and their skills to make the client’s hair look like something out of a film. It is not uncommon to hear that many of these patrons go in weekly or every few weeks to try to maintain that put together hair.
Barbershops are also a booming business in Miami, and the same holds true as for hairdressers in salons. It is of utmost importance to know and understand textures of hair because your client’s will be from all walks of life. A lot of these barbershops have a gentlemanly vibe and inspire men to pamper themselves. Usually these locations have extra services like steam foam hot shaves and even old-time shoe shining services. Just like the salons, these barbershops range from uppity high-end spots catering to businessmen on lunch break, to quaint neighbourhood barber shops where many of the clientele know each other well and use their time together to talk about troubles, work, family, etc.
It is those neighbourhood salons that merit a small visit. There is something about higher end salons that have a distinct quality that is very much the same everywhere. However, a venture into a neighbourhood like Wynwood, Little Havana or Little Haiti will most likely be worth it in terms of finding hidden gems. The restaurants, shops and salons in these types of places will most likely be owned by up and coming entrepreneurs or long time shop owners whose services have weathered the storm of city growth and gentrification."
Sorting out your ESTA application
Once you do decide to go to Miami on holiday, you will need to first get your
ESTA application sorted out to get there. An ESTA is easier to apply for than a normal visa, and one of the biggest advantages is that you do not need to visit an embassy or go anywhere in person. You can apply for the ESTA online, and the form only takes 10 or 15 minutes to fill out. However, always make sure you meet the
requirements for the ESTA. Luckily, most people from the UK and Europe do.
Check the COVID-19 rules for the USA
It is also very important to keep the current travel restrictions in mind. These change all the time, and you don’t want to be caught unawares at the airport. For example, the USA recently changed its pre-departure testing rules. While it is currently still possible to travel to the USA on an ESTA, keep in mind that having an approved ESTA does not grant you the absolute right to enter the USA. Government rules, such as COVID-19 rules, supersede any granted ESTA or visa. So make sure you have both of those things figured out before heading out.
