Tracey Devine-Smith Headlines Fellowship Evening Tracey Devine-Smith was the star of a special night hosted by the Fellowship for British Hairdressing, which celebrated her career and the work which has made her a firm favourite within the industry. Tracey, who is the current Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year and owner of Angels salons in Aberdeen, said it was an honour to represent women hairdressers. Taking centre stage, Tracey first worked with a simple ponytail, using gold and silver thread to create a bubble effect. Then, using hairspray and a toothbrush, she demonstrated how to control flyaway hairs on looks from her latest collection. Using gold and silver thread was a theme that ran throughout the night, as she also used it to sew a twist into place as well as to decorate manes. "We are always trying to reinvent things," she explained. "But it's not rocket science, it's hair - there is always something new we can do." "I'm now the global ambassador for Affinage," she added as she went to talk about her career. "I'm really enjoying this as we have created new imagery, presented shows and seminars and developed new products. It's completely different to working in a salon and something I am really enjoying." Tracey also talked about the difficulties she faced at the beginning of her career - namely starting a business as a single mum - trying to make her way and make her mark. Over the years she has won numerous awards for her creativity and business, so where does she get her inspiration? "It's about doing things and always pushing ourselves. I'm inspired by fashion, family and everything around me. To be truly inspired you need to be happy." The night finished with a pop-up studio, with Lel Burnett photographing Tracey's finished looks, giving the audience the opportunity to see the models up close, ask questions and watch a live model become an image.
