Parisian fashion house Kenzo recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a whole day of retrospective catwalk shows, held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
The five performances were part of the museum's Fashion in Motion series of events, and took place in the spectacular surroundings of the Raphael Gallery - home to some of the most important surviving examples of Renaissance art in the world.
Created in 1970 by Kenzo Takada, the label is renowned for its use of intricate texture, bold print, and vibrant colour.
Today, the label combines the founder's Japanese design sensibility with the Sardinian heritage of current creative director, Antonio Marras.

For this special retrospective, Kenzo called on the Toni & Guy session team - led by international artistic director Pinar Necati, and working in association with L'Oréal Professionnel - to create catwalk looks for 30 models
And although the models were dressed in a series of elaborate and innovative Kenzo headdresses, the team wanted to do something more than just a wig wrap or ponytail.
Owing to the size and weight of the pieces, the team needed to create a solid foundation with plenty of padding and grip.

Pinar created a style incorporating a series of intricate braids and chignons, woven tightly on to the head and pinned in panels to add width, and create a firm base for the tall, heavy, headpieces.
"It was pretty hectic styling all 30 models, especially as the hair had to last all day, through five separate shows," says Pinar. "Working with Kenzo is a fantastic honour, and although it was hard work, we created some amazing styles."
