The top three colour predictions for summer 2018 Three of the UK's colour experts share their techniques and colour predictions for what your clients will be asking for in your salons this spring/summer...

Colour morphing, boosting and washing

“Pure Pigments is taking hair colour services to the next level. We offer Goldwell stylists colour creativity, which will not only delight clients but also elevates colour expertise and upgrades the hair colour business. Three new services for Goldwell’s Elumenated Hair Colour are being introduced. Firstly, Colour Morphing which uses multiple tones of Pure Pigments to create iridescent or holographic colour e ects. Colour Boosting which creates an intense and vivid colour – taking your client’s hair colour to a whole new level. Finally, Colour Washing for beautiful pastel washes ranging from subtle to intense.” Alan Cane, associate director of education, Kao Salon Division UK Goldwell

Silk bath technique

“We’ve recently held workshops at Skyler London to tell other hairdressers about the new Silk Bath technique we’ve developed. It’s inspired by the silk industry’s process of dying materials. Direct dye is applied at the backwash after the appropriate level of toning. It is a totally bespoke service depending on what the client wants and how their hair takes to the process. We use a mix of L’Oréal’s Colorful Hair colours with several different shades to get the desired effect. It’s an on-demand temporary colour, which is perfect for low commitment but high impact summer looks.” Rebecca Emmett, colourist, Skyler London

Clashing hues and contouring

“I predict clashing hues and a play on muted tones and saturation as seen in the latest Toni & Guy collection, Futurewise, will be popular this spring/summer. Colour contouring is set to come into its own. The boundaries of techniques are constantly being pushed from colour drifting, barcoding, panelling and interior shading to the ever-evolving freehand approach. How these techniques sit on the hair will depend on the colour placement, the strength of the hue and how it falls within the shape of the haircut. A top tip is to apply on a lightened base to see the true deposit of tone. Stay tuned for some exciting colour news from Toni & Guy in the next couple of months!” Jo O’Neill, international technical educator and director, Toni & Guy
