Summer is officially over!

On Monday night, we resumed our model nights at Forresters which means that summer is officially over!
You wouldn't necessarily notice that in the salon, though, because most people are still going for the shorter 'Posh' look that has defined this summer.
I'm sure that as soon as the autumn weather and fashions establish themselves there will be a shift in the trends people are asking for. I'll keep you posted as and when I see it.It was good to get the scissors back in my hand, but model night certainly threw me back in at the deep end because I had two models who wanted things that I hadn't done before.
The first model was one of my regulars, whose hair I cut every five weeks or so. She came in asking for something different, which is always good experience.
The last time she visited she had a full fringe, but wanted a change so I made it shorter and wispier. When she came in this week she told me that she didn't really get on with it. It had grown out a bit, so I turned it into a side fringe.
I also took about two inches off the length - although I always try to be a bit on the conservative side rather than taking too much of and risking them not liking it - and made the whole cut a bit choppier.
Model two was a young girl who was going back to school and wanted her hair to be graduated at the back to make it a bit trendier than the one-length bob she came in with.
To make matters worse, it was a cut under mum's orders so I had two tough customers to please!
I'd describe graduating hair as a technical hair cut. You have to thin the hair out to get the right look and I'd never really done it before so I needed quite a lot of supervision. Fortunately, I'm not someone who minds asking for help - I'd rather be told what to do than guess and get it wrong! - and the cut went okay.
The next challenge for me is remembering what I learned this week and carrying out the cuts without supervision the next time someone asks me to do so.
On Monday, I'm at the Pangbourne Salon, Forresters' training academy, all day so I'll have plenty of progress to report back to you next week.
