In her second year as ambassador for Shaping Futures, Janet Maitland has named the new team of hairdressers who will be joining her to head out to India in October.
Shaping Futures is a social initiative launched by Schwarzkopf Professional in cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages, helping to transform the lives of young children around the world by equipping them with a life skill.
Alongside Janet and two Schwarzkopf Professional technicians, the team of eight hairdressers will now fly out to India to provide six weeks of intensive education. By the end of the programme, 30 students will have a good basic knowledge of how to cut, straighten, curl, style, perm and colour hair. As a further boost, at the end of the course they will all be placed for apprenticeships within one of the large hairdressing chains in India.
Alongside ambassador Janet, the team are:
Melenie Tudor, En Route Hair & Beauty
Nicole Parkes, Wish Hairdressing
Margarita Halamenda, Rizzo
Sara-Jane McBride, John Gillespie
Sarah Franklin, The Hair Shop
Sarah Brown, Janet Maitland Hair Excellence
Anthony McMeiken, Janet Maitland Hair Excellence
Janet says: "Being in the SOS Children's village makes you realise how important education is. I was looking for people who really wanted to make a difference, are good team leaders and who have compassion. We all try to support each other as much as possible as you definitely need a positive environment to work in. The team I've got this year are great, and I can't wait to go over to India with them!"
