Sew Brooklyn: Growing with Fresha and Redefining the Brooklyn Salon

Published 19th Jun 2024 by Charlotte Grant-West

In Sew Brooklyn’s own words: you shouldn’t have to travel into Manhattan for the service you really want and deserve. Find out more about the US salon and how they have harnessed the power of software with Fresha.

Shawanda saw that Brooklyn needed luxury of its own. “I decided to create that here for my community” she explained.

Sew Brooklyn opened in 2015 when Brooklyn was “seriously lacking in high-quality service that was affordable and still put customer service in the forefront” says Shawanda. She describes Sew Brooklyn as one of the pioneers redefining the Brooklyn salon.

But building that business wasn’t easy. During Covid they had to shut down one of their locations, also in Brooklyn. “After the pandemic things shifted a bit, and the business had a lot of changes” Shawanda told us.

But working with Fresha means Shawanda has been supported the whole way.

“I really built the business with them, so I grew with them. It really holds a special place in my heart. I love how they update us every step of the way,” Shawanda explains.

Using Fresha saves so much of Shawanda’s time. From being able to schedule marketing promotions to targeted audiences, to giving clients the convenience they want with Tap to Pay on iPhone, it helps the business not just tick over, but continue to grow with less effort involved.

“If we want to tackle a certain clientele, or someone we know we haven’t seen in a month or so, we can target those clients and get them back into the salon with a simple email or text message. Fresha is a great partner because they listen.”

So, when I do have concerns and ideas they’re really good at communication. Working together with Fresha has been seamless.”

The future is looking bright for Sew Brooklyn. “We’re hoping to open more salons in the city with Fresha’s help," Shawanda says.

From navigating running a salon during a pandemic, to taking this next step, Fresha will continue to help Shawanda navigate changes, new locations and the busy day to day.
