A salon in Merseyside has created a hairdressing collection to highlight awareness around varying emotions and mental health. Here, salon owner Claire Jones reveals the story behind it in her own words.
"I am the owner of Self Love Salon in St.Helens, Merseyside and our ethos is to support and promote inner beauty as much as outer beauty.
This shoot was a hair photo session with the support of St.Helens College media department and three young stylists who I was mentoring at the time (they are qualified but asked for assistance with building experience and confidence).
The shoot was based on Emotions and how we view them including anxiety, depression, joy and confidence. The purpose was to highlight the importance if recognising emotions but in a fun, creative way.
I had several sessions leading up to the shoot (which took place in June last year) to teach and encourage the students own individual view of emotions and how they affect us. We also created mood boards which we then used to create the looks.
I am hugely passionate about supporting young adults and creating opportunities to showcase and express their talents and managed to get mentoring from British Hairdressing Award winners Tracey Ann Smith and Caroline Sanderson (two of my hairdressing heroes) for this project."
