The MTV Europe Music Awards 2012 took place in Frankfurt, Germany this week and the circus-themed event attracted the usual array of A-listers.
Taylor Swift
The pop princess continues to develop her style from fairytale to fierce, abandoning her tight ringlets for a sleeker style.
For the 2012 awards, Taylor opted for a smooth wavy style worn close to the head and with just a hint of movement through the lengths and around the face.
A full, lash-tickling fringe completes the sultry style, drawing all attention to her smoky eyes.
The darker blonde shade with a glossy, high-shine finish completes the glam look.
Carly Rae Jepsen
Carly opted for a block black shade for the 2012 awards, darkening her brunette locks to a velvety gothic shade.
The rock-chick hue is complemented with a super-long curving fringe which draws attention down to her bright blue eyes, just like Taylor's style.
A long, very loose braid worn slung over one shoulder complete Carly's look.
Down dos are a Carly staple, but I'd love to see her with her hair off her face for a more fun, youthful red carpet style - especially with that sparkling show-stopper of a gown.
Rita Ora
Rita continues to have a Marilyn Moment, with her platinum blonde hair styled in to classic curls.
Adding a trademark edge, Rita's roots add a grungy element to the style.
With her fabulous Marchesa gown and old-school Hollywood lipstick, those roots are an essential to keep Rita's style looking too much of a retro homage.
A slightly dishevelled texture and fluffy lengths further add to the modern twist on a classic style - you can certainly tell that Rita's style is inspired by Gwen Stefani.
Gwen Stefani
On this occasion, I think Rita wins the style wars with her style icon, Gwen.
While Gwen always looks flawless - and this occasion is no different - her blonde locks do look slightly lacklustre.
As a bona fide rock chick, the tousled waves and racked-back parting work and the added volume around the crown adds a hint of retro style, but overall this style doesn't quite feel like the Gwen we know and love.
Worn with a Jean-Paul Gaultier dress, I think this is a rare occasion that I would have liked to see Gwen's hair worn up rather than dressed out.
Pixie Geldof
Pixie Geldof also attended the awards, in the guise of singer with her band, Violet, rather than as her usual fashionable London girl about town.
Opting for yet another new hair colour, Pixie went for a dark brunette shade which looks almost natural with her creamy skin and rosy-pink makeup.
The layered crop makes for a flattering and grown-up style for Pixie and styled with plenty of volume at the crown, the overall look is a sexy and stylish choice for the Geldof girl.
Kim Kardashian
Kim continues her Kanye-inspired fashion-forward transformation, opting for a Stephane Rolland layered dress with a train.
Worn with a high straight ponytail slicked back away from the face, this is a trademark Kim look and provides the perfect opportunity to show off her usual smoky eyes.
I think it's safe to say that Kim is queen of the high ponytail these days - high, straight and sleek styles appear almost as often as bouncy blow-dried waves on her red carpet outings.
Lana Del Rey
No surprise to see Lana opt for a voluminous bouffant style; she's the reigning queen of retro volume with a real Ronettes feel to her look.
A new dark-chocolate shade adds to the striking feel of Lana's look, although I'm not sure it's the best match to that navy satin gown.
As usual, Lana gives her vintage-inspired style a modern update with a super glossy feel - rather than opting for a solid, matte finish for a 60s look, hair looks glossy, healthy and full of movement.
Heidi Klum
The evening's host, Heidi Klum, opted for a side-swept style to complement her super-sexy Versace gown.
Interestingly, Heidi opted to sweep her hair over to the same side as all of the detail on her asymmetric dress.
Styled straight but with a textured feel and volume through the top and with a French braid snaking back on the opposite side, I do quite like this style on Heidi - particularly the rootsy section - but I'm not sure it's quite the right choice for this dress.
That said, it had to work with her numerous costume changes throughout the night so maybe it was a case of a bit of something for every look!
