Quick salon revamps don't have to cost a fortune - when it comes to giving the salon a refreshing new look, sometimes cheap and cheerful is best. A simple lick of paint will brighten up the dullest of areas, while adding coloured accessories will offer an on-trend look. Moving furniture and sections or adding new areas can totally transform the look – as well as the business. Small changes can make a big difference, so why not give some of these simple ideas a try?
• Adding “bolt-on” services like manicures, pedicures, Indian head massage or a relaxing conditioning treatments can increase turnover and raise the salon’s profile. A small investment in a mobile manicure station, one reclining and massaging shampoo unit and some training can have a big impact on your salon.
• Giving the salon a good clean can really revitalise its look. Dusting the tops of shelves, polishing floors, cleaning blinds, windowsills and skirting boards will give the salon a fresh, bright air. A professional cleaning company will charge dependent on the size of the job – or make it a team-building exercise and involve staff members.

• Rather than a total refit, instead concentrate on updating key areas to create an impact, such as the backwash space or reception area.
• Think about changing colour schemes. Metallics and textured finishes are opulent and elegant, while black and white works well with accent colours.

• LED lighting can make a huge difference to a salon. It gives a good quality of light, and is perfect for illuminating retail products.
• Use colour-changing lights to add interest during the day and make the salon stand out at night.

• If your salon looks cluttered, untidy and disorganised it may reflect your approach to services. This can deter clients and make the working environment unpleasant too.
• Reupholster and recondition furniture so it always looks pristine and well-maintained.

• Salons looking to create that “wow” impact without the expense of a major refit can look at removing non-load-bearing internal walls, which instantly brings redundant spaces into use. This is a cheap option for an instant impact.
• Using large-scale prints of striking colours, landscapes or cityscape photographs gives the illusion of windows. Wall-mounted uplighters minimise clutter and give the appearance of space.
