Post-christmas quiet in the salon - louis

Hello, long time no speak! All the excitement of Christmas and New Year really took its toll on me and I was completely wiped out for over a week, but I'm finally back in action now. This is a very strange time of year in the salon. During the build up to Christmas it felt like you didn't have a moment to think and now it's really quiet. The steady stream of clients coming in don't seem to be up for anything dramatic either. I think that's partly down to post-Christmas funds and partly down to the fact that nothing new seems to be happening in fashion at the moment; it all feels like a bit of a continuation at the moment. The good thing about being quiet is there are lots of opportunities for me to blow dry hair and watch and learn from the senior staff. I still have my training on a Monday night and this week was great because I got to cut one of my regular models long hair into a graduated bob. I've never done a complete re-style before and have got quite used to doing my models' hair on my own without very much guidance, but because I was doing a cut that I had never done before I needed a lot more advice. The whole thing was a bit of an experience and all in all I think I did ok and will have a much better idea about how to go about it the next time someone asks me for something similar. The next six months are all about learning every hair cut and putting them together, because the funkier cuts now are pieces of different hair cuts. I'm hoping that by the end of the year/beginning of next year I'll be ready to qualify. It might sound like a long way off and I could have trained quicker by going to college, but I'm glad I decided to do it this way. Salons like people with in-salon experience and the clientele are already getting to know me and seeing me in the salon, so hopefully it will stand me in good stead when I have my own column. I considered that route (college) but they like people with in-salon experience. You get trained quicker, but don't have the clientele getting to know you watching you grow and building relationships.
