Trend-Vision-Seminar-1.jpg Monday, 21st January saw Wella Professionals kick-off their series of Trend Vision Award 08 Insight Seminars. The evenings are designed to inspire and educate hairdressers about this year's Trend Vision Award, with members of the Wella Professionals Project 7 and technical teams creating their versions of the four key trends for 2008. Each of the trends are replicated in a haute couture, straight-off-the-catwalk, creation and a pret-a-porter, ready to wear interpretation that can be recreated on your clients.

Wella Professionals Trend Vision ’08:

Wonderland - natural beauty, where dreams become reality with an almost childlike quality. Mineral Splendour - refined luxury with cool ashen colours meeting warm metallic tones with head-hugging cocoon shapes. Factory Lyrics - an androgynous feel where hair is in un-uniformed shapes and colours are city-inspired subdued tones. Couture Allure - for ladies who live by the mantra ‘life is a catwalk’. This is an audacious, charismatic look. Pictures of the trends>> At the first of the seminars in the Wella Professionals World Studio London, Project 7 members Daniel Posner from Daniel Adams, Martin Holmes at Strangeways and Kai Wan at p. kai shared their secrets for interpreting a trend. Daniel says: "When I see the description I type the buzz words into google images and see what it returns - artists can be really good inspiration. " Martin adds: "Rather than using google, I get out a pen and paper and write or draw all the things that the buzz words make me think of and go from there." As well as creating their looks, pictured above, they gave their key pieces of advice for entering, and hopefully winning, Trend Vision Award 08:

Top Tips

Have a good model - someone who is reliable and will look good not just in the photo shoot, but also on the stage if you get through to the later stages. Make the most of the resources you have - if you can't afford a professional photographer contact local colleges, there are always talented students looking to build their portfolios. Stick to your trend - judges should always be able to identify which trend you have interpreted without looking at your entry form. Practice, practice, practice - there is no point just thinking the hair will be great for the photo shoot, you need to rehearse your look over and over again until you know exactly what you are trying to achieve and are able to do it the best that you can. Don't use wefts of hair extensions - they are against the rules so you'll be disqualified. You can use padding though. Don't give up - if you don't make the live stages this year there is always next year and if you don't make it next year there is always the year after... Good Luck!
