Patrick cameron introduces club noir at salon international 2011
High-octane glamour, styling secrets and plenty of good-natured audience interaction made for a typically exuberant Patrick Cameron show at Salon International 2011.
The maestro of long hair used his Salon Live presentation to introduce a capacity audience to his latest collection, Club Noir. Described as a sophisticated ensemble of looks, the styles combined voluminous shapes with soft textures inspired by quintessential elegance and plenty of unapologetic glossy glamour.
Known for making intricate undos look effortless, Patrick opened the show by explaining that he was going to create eight brand new looks.
"I've got one hour and 15 minutes," he joked. "That's roughly nine minutes per model and with my styling secrets, I'm going to show you easy it is to recreate these yourself in that time."
What followed was a masterclass in modern but commercial and highly wearable updos, with looks ranging from voluminous buns and a twisted, knotted chignon to an asymmetric updo combining curls and waves and a faux bob created from a mass of curls.
Discussing current trends in long hair, Patrick explained that sexy, simple and soft styles are key but that modern women don't want hair to look 'done' - they want it to look as though they've created it themselves.
The key to keeping it modern? Maintaining a young energy, with texture and loose tendrils complementing the elegance of classic techniques. "Knowing when to stop is important," Patrick explained. "Take a simple idea and have fun with it, but don't make it perfect - you don't want it to look like a hat!"
The show also saw Patrick reveal two of his new products; a clip-in hair pad dubbed the ultimate crown lift - created to reduce backcombing; and the halo - an oversized bun ring which can also be shaped to create updos of any style.
For his final look, Patrick styled hair to the sounds of Grace Jones, dancing around the model as he styled a beautiful faux-bob from a full head of curls.

As the music reached a crescendo, all the models returned to the stage in all-black ensembles, dripping with jewels for a finale that oozed modern elegance.
"Having fun with hair is something I've spent my life doing," concluded Patrick. And as he left the stage to a standing ovation, it's safe to say that his enthusiasm for the art was infectious.
