For 2025, the Pantone Color Institute has selected PANTONE 17-1230, better known as Mocha Mousse as the Pantone Color of The Year. In their announce the Pantone Color Insititute described Mocha Mousse as: "A warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort."
What is The Pantone Color of The Year?
The Pantone Color of the Year programme engages the design community and colour enthusiasts in a conversation around colour, highlighting the relationship between colour and culture. Pantone selects a colour each year that captures the global zeitgeist—the Color of the Year expresses a global mood and an attitude, reflecting collective desire in the form of a single, distinct hue. Speaking to Let Lew, ASP ambassador, about bringing the Color of The Year into the salon he encouraged salon owners to think about their salon interior: “Putting up some colour of the year hair imagery in seating areas, placing decorative items of a similar shade can encourage a mood. This is a very useful and fun tip for stylists to introduce the shade to clients. It is all about the vibes.”
Jo O’Neill from TONI&GUY discusses the various uses of Mocha Mousse in colouring techniques, explaining: "It’s an amazing colour because it sits in between cool and warm so is fantastic for pretty much all skin tones; it’s great for toning blondes whether it be highlights, microlights, foliage balayage or all over platinum blondes. It looks amazing when you use this tone all over bleach but also fantastic when you’re working on those darker bases such as brown, light brown and dark blonde."
Meanwhile, Marlon Hawkins, from Brooks & Brooks London, says: "I personally think a huge colour trend for 2025 is dimensional colour, so adding variation with colour and depth helps bring this Pantone shade to life in the hair."
