Original character at harry green gentleman's barbers

harry-green-front.jpgTurning a former estate agents into a cool men's salon, that reflected the heritage of its Saxon town location was a tough challenge, but Harry and his father, and business partner, Paul Green, have done just that with Harry Green Gentlemens Barbers, Maldon, Essex.

Adding to the challenge was the fact that the premises had been empty for two years and in its former guise, had been plastered into a boring box design, which was a long way from the look the pair wanted.

The biggest job, says Harry, was to expose the original oak beams. This was done by removing all the plasterwork and shot-blasting the beams to clear any residue. The results helped reveal the true age of the building - it's one of the oldest in the town.

As the building is Grade-II listed, there were limits to what could be done to the premises, but with Harry and Paul keen to restore original character to the building, their efforts were applauded by the local council and clients alike.
