Old spice guy is my new hero

Okay, so how comes no one ever told me about the Old Spice Guy before?

The whole point of this blog is for me to share some of the coolest new things on the web with the hairdressing industry and it turns out that I am SO out of touch!!!

The idea of Old Spice guy was to help the brand shed its old-man's tag, so they came up with this guy - who would be very cool if he didn't remind me quite so much of a tall Ashley Cole!

It's not the most innovative marketing idea you've ever heard, but here's the really clever bit. The Old Spice guy responds to people's comments and tweets by acting out a little sketch.

He's picked up an army of followers, that include the likes of Perez Hilton https://twitter.com/perezhilton) and Demi Moore https://twitter.com/mrskutcher and his videos regularly get millions of hits. Here's his response to Demi's tweet, which has had a meagre 823,000 votes - more popular videos have been known to pick up multi-millions.  

When I'm out with the commercial team, I often hear people say that they want to create a viral campaign. Well if anyone is serious about it, this has to be their new benchmark.  

It's a slightly tenuous link, but as Matthew is our (somewhat brilliant, I might add) men's hairdressing blogger I think that he should make it his new ambition to get a response from Old Spice Guy
