Old Money Blonde: The Luxury Hair Colour Trend

Updated on 12th May 2025 by Charlotte Grant-West

Old Money Blonde is luxurious and rich hair colour, it's hair that looks like it's never worked a day in its life.

What Is Old Money Blonde Hair Colour?

Effortlessly healthy, the sort of blonde that you know isn't natural but is definitely been created to look like you've spent two weeks in The Hamptons.

The Old Money hair trend shows no sign of slowing down.

"Old-Money blonde continues to be one of the most popular blonde hues as clients start to take a step away from the clean, icy platinum hues and start to look for a blonde shade that provides their hair with a more natural appearance and adds depth and dimension. However it still packs a punch and looks beautiful," predicts Kirsty Judge, Rush Hair Colour Team Member/Educator.

It's great to see a departure from more high-maintenance icy blondes, and follows the increased trend for warm blonde shades.

How to Achieve Old Money Blonde

Kirsty says that it's all about subtely, and nothing heavy or chunky. "With this colour it’s all about colour placement and ensuring fine highlights/babylights are placed strategically through the hair," she says. "These should then be paired with a super soft, subtle shadowed root for depth and dimension."

To create an old money blonde you will need to use a technique that requires ribbons of warm but also cool blondes, explains Charlie Illi, Brooks & Brooks London.

"This brightens but also deepens areas of the hair that melts into a rich, luxurious and heavy blonde, L’Oreal Professionnel INOA is perfect for adding warmer, deeper tones, while L’Oreal Professionnel Majirel High Lift is perfect for adding lift and depositing the pigment you need," explains Charlie. "The best result is to use your rebonding treatment such as Innoluxe Treatment in the colour which makes sure hair remains in tip top condition."

Who does Old Money Blonde Suit?

This shade is perfect for clients who are looking for a warmer, more golden toned blonde. "It will add a glow to their complexion and provide hair with a super elegant and luxurious appearance," explains Kirsty.

So what is the difference between old money blonde and dirty blonde? Well, there's quite a big difference actually. Although Old Money Blonde can feature a root shadow, it's more likely to be seamlessly blended and highlights are super light and bright, whereas a dirty blonde might be more toned done, feature a heavier root and have less cool blonde tones.

"For any grunge, punk and edgy clients out there, Old Money Blonde may not suit their very cool personality or look, just because it is quite an elegant look," Charlie comments.

What Celebrities Have Old Money Blonde Hair?

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Sydney Sweeney, Adele, Margot Robbie, Matilda Djerf and Zendaya, to name just a few!

It might be because it looks luxurious, but it's also extremley versatile and works with the individual's natural hair colour. Whether they want a couple of highlights or a whole head, Old Money Blonde is a multi-dimensional blonde that gives the illusion of very well-maintained hair - even with a lifestyle that is full on and can see their hair change from one movie role or shoot to the next. Which might be one of the reasons the A list actors have really got behind Old Money Blonde hair!
