The Alternative Hair Show is one of the world's most talked-about hairdressing events, featuring inspirational presentations by hair artists and teams from all over the globe, all in the name of charity.
The 28th annual event was held at the magnificent Grand Temple of the Freemasons' Hall in London's Covent Garden, with the theme of 'Masquerade'.
Following a gala dinner hosted by showbiz legend Christopher Biggins, the audience filtered through to the hall to enjoy a fantastic night of entertainment, all for a very good cause.

The show kicked off with the presentation of the International Visionary Award. This accolade recognises new talent in the industry, and was presented by Alternative Hair President, Anthony Mascolo, to Andrius Masauskas from Lithuania.
The seventeen international teams then took to the stage to present their shows. Although the theme of masquerade was evident throughout, it was interpreted in a remarkable array of styles for a truly diverse show.

Here the teams describe their creative processes:
Sanrizz
Masquerade was translated through layering to give a feeling of sensuality, enhanced by nude tones in the models' outfits.
TIGI Creative Team
The TIGI Masquerade was a gothic mix of light and darkness, introduced by a masked 'joker'. Textured shapes in the hair were echoed in the strong shapes of the clothes.
Carlo Bay
Carlo's inspiration came from the Stanley Kubrick film, Eyes Wide Shut. Inspiration also came from Milan Fashion Week, where the artistic team have worked extensively.
Alan Edwards
Inspired by Mongolian Royalty and Star Wars, the Alan Edwards team created an ecelectic mix in their collection.
Dimitry Vinokurov

Fehringer
Colour and extending shapes were the starting point for Fehringer's futuristic presentation. Extending hoses on the models arms were used to give a feeling of transition and movement, with colourful circles of hair enhancing the mood.
Klaus Peter Ochs

Nicholas French
Whimsical Alice in Wonderland characters were the inspiration to these looks, with woven hair creating strong, avant-garde shapes.
Sassoon
The Sassoon Team took on a tribal theme to create sleek looks with strong colour.
Gandini
The soul of woman was the idea behind the Gandini collection, contrasting a purity and stillness against an energetic, in-your-face routine.
Mark Woolley
Natural textures and movement were key to Mark Woolley's London-inspired collection. Straight and curly textures and dark and blonde shades contrasted elegantly.
Kohsuke Visual Network
A traditional folk tale in which a fox masquerades as a human and tries to marry a young girl was the theme of this presentation, that incorporated dance and theatrics.
Stevo
This presentation was all about nostalgia, with a Baroque, fantasy take on glamour.
Burlingtons
The presentation included an antique, 'broken down doll' look, with colourful, distressed hair.
Guy Kremer
Also taking the idea of a doll as inspiration, Guy Kremer's interpretation of masquerade was about colourful clothes, makeup and hair.
Saco
Models wearing sleek bobs in quirky bright pastels created a colourful collection for Saco.
Tim Hartley
A glamorous feeling was created with a presentation that had a chic, sensual, 50 feel.
The 2010 event raised £200,000 to support leukaemia and lymphoma research, adding to the grand total of almost £8 million raised by the Alternative Hair Show over the last 28 year
