Steve Turner, global ambassador for MyHairDressers, recently made his second trip to Iraq to deliver training - amidst the outbreak of armed conflict in the region.
With reassurance that the Isis rebels were no threat to the area, Steve flew to the Kurdish city of Sulaymaniyah for a bespoke four-day, in-salon training workshop for Rabih Ghanem and the team at Rabih Lebanese Beauty Centres.
Working with the 'See Do Stop Check' technique which he pioneered, Steve started his education programme with a day in the salon watching the team at work and gaining an understanding of their clients' needs. From this, he put together a bespoke training plan.
Clients at the high-end salon include government ministers and their spouses, and the styles they frequently request require long graduated techniques, square and round layering or short graduated shapes. Steve focussed his training around solid foundation techniques, using the MyHairDressers archive of videos and hands-on demos to bring to life client-friendly looks and useful everyday techniques.
Steve says: "It was great to utilise the huge collection of MyHairDressers.com training videos and show how to apply it to any client - right, here right now. The beauty of the back catalogue is that it is relevant for any country. In the Middle East the trend is for very beautiful, layered cuts, whereas in other countries it may be more funky colours or choppy fringes. Working in Iraq is a fantastic experience and it was a pleasure and an honour to be invited back.”
Rabih Ghamen has four salons in the Middle East, with his latest opening in the Millennium Grand Sulaimani Hotel. He says: "Steve is the best at taking information from a video and making it happen for real on real clients. He makes it fun to learn! Thank You Steve."
