Celebrity Stylist and
HJ's reigning Afro Hairdresser of the Year, Charlotte Mensah of Hair Lounge, London, reveals how to recreate the hottest hair looks from the MOBO Awards 2014.
Having previously worked with ho has worked with the likes of Beverley Knight, Janelle Monae, Shingai Shoniwa, Lorraine Pascale and Eve, Charlotte has no shortage of A-list experience. Over to you, Charlotte!
Ella Eyre
Ella Eyre’s 70s disco curl looks amazing, especially with her dramatic ombre. To recreate the look, wrap small sections around a small barrel curling iron. Once you’ve curled the entire head, take a boar bristle brush and backcomb through each curl to create that wonderful fluffy effect.
Mel B
Mel B’s is really working this short, clean, slicked back bob. This is so simple to replicate. Start by using a comb (not a brush) to comb through your hair from the front to the back in sections to tease out any tricky knots. Then apply a gel by rubbing the liquid between your palms and smoothing over the front and sides. Be sure to leave the back free of product so it falls naturally just like Mel’s.
Sarah-Jane Crawford
Sarah’s signature loose waves look great. If you want to create this style in the salon, use a wand to wave your client’s hair in big chunky sections to get the flow that Sarah Jane has. After you’ve curled the hair, use your fingers to brush through and loosen it up. Finish with a spritz of hairspray for added volume.
Alexandra Burke
Alexandra is never afraid to switch up her locks with extensions. These super wavy, long deep side parted extensions go well with her embellished dress.
