Mark lesson teaches the business of blondes
London hairdressers were in for a treat when Mark Leeson's final leg of 'The Business of Blondes' tour, with Goldwell, came to the Capital.
The emphasis of the night, which was hosted by Goldwell's William Wilson, head of creative direction, was to get the audience thinking about how lucrative their blonde business can be - from the actual colour service clients receive to the aftercare that is crucial for maintaining blonde hair.
"Blonde is the most important part of our colour business. Get that colour right and you're on the road to success," he said.
There were five areas that Mark identified as being key elements to his blonde business:
- colouring
- cutting
- finishing and styling
- maintenance
- editorial
Mark believes that every cut should have colour to enhance it and this should be addressed at the consultation stage. "A great listener makes a great colourist. Often clients know what they don't want, but they don't know what they do want," he added.
There were five stunning models that Mark worked on which all represented his trademark look - soft, expensive and luxurious.
Looks included an 80s inspired, edgy crop, and a long curly modern version of Bridget Bardot's iconic hair. "Texturising scissors are great for recreating the 80s look in a much softer way," added Mark.
Essentially, the hair was all based on traditional techniques which had a modern twist. Mark worked with pin curling, scissor-over-comb cutting and finger brushing, using plenty of Goldwell styling products to enhance his styles.
If the purpose of the night was to motivate and inspire the audience, then it certainly achieved its objective. It was education at its finest. "Sixty-70% of your clients are blonde in some way. Everybody can be blonde, it's just finding the right tone for that suits them," he said.
