Manchester-based stylist Nicola Wood headed into the Dragon’s Den in search on an investor for her growing hair extension holder brand Easiweft.
Airing yesterday (Sunday 11 November) the show featured Nicola who was billed as a "hairstylist attempt(ing) to avoid knotty problems as the investors scrutinise her pitch.”
The hit BBC Two programme sees entrepreneurs pitching for just three minutes for investment in their business. Nicola entered the Den asking for £80,000 in return for 25% equity share in
Easiweft. This would be invested in new product development, to keep up with UK demand and to further grow its international markets.
On her experience, Nicola says: “I am still on a high from the whole experience. I think I’ve secretly always been an entrepreneur and as a huge fan of the show, right from the early days I really wanted to take Easiweft onto this platform to showcase the product to a wider audience.”
Nicola applied back in March and following a rigorous assessment process and diligence the filming was back in May. Preparation was key for Nicola, and she worked with other business gurus on her pitch and talked with former contestants to truly understand what to expect.
Although there was no investment, feedback on Easiweft was positive and the experience has had a very positive impact on Nicola who hopes to extend her business further. Since recording Dragons’ Den, the brand has launched Easitint, a disposable colouring sheet, and is due to launch the Easibond application tool shortly.
“Life is all about learning and I have certainly learned so much since launching the Easiweft. To go from a hairdresser, to an entrepreneur is quite a big step to take, but I have managed to take a product to market and I am being taken seriously by some of the top hair extension companies and wholesalers around the world. I am so proud of my achievement and excited to see what the future has in store."
