Making an apperance on the one show
As you may have heard, I have been appointed as the Hairdressing Council's ambassaddor and my goal is to encourage as many hairdressers as possible to register as professionals.
When I get a bee in my bonnet about something, I really like to go for it, so I am determined to generate as much interest in state registration as possible and encourage as many hairdressers as possible to register.
I'm not trying to change hairdressing, I am just trying to make hairdressers and the general public aware of the situation because the more hairdressers that register, the better chance we have of getting a collective voice.
This week, I was lucky enough to be able to share the message on BBC's The One Show. There were 4.7 million viewers so it was a fantastic platform and the council have already seen an increase in the number of registrations.
I find myself using my voice more and more to do things for charities like Barnados, the Prince's Trust and the Adoption and Fostering Association, whom I gave a speech for the other day.
I am also involved in an equal opportunities programme to speak to schoolboys about careers in the hairdressing industry and the opportunities that they present.
As part of this, I'm off to a college in Solihull, on Monday, to speak to a group of 14-16 year olds. There are certain stereotypes that have led to a shortage of male recruits in the industry so they tend to be very unresponsive at first, but when they start realising the doors it can open they tend to start to thaw a little. So hopefully, they won't be too hard on me!
It's fun that my career has become so diverse but first and foremost I am still a hairdresser and I am never happier than when I am in my salon seeing clients.
