The grand final of the 2012 L'Oréal Colour Trophy returned to Grosvenor House, London, for an evening of entertainment, fashion, and a celebration of some of the most talented hairdressers in the country.

Over 1,000 of the industry's most prominent names filled the historical hotel's Great Room, which had been transformed with a 42-meter horse-shoe shaped catwalk and spectacular 17-meter long, four-meter high LED screen which wowed the audience with breathtaking visuals throughout the evening' show.

The evening's entertainment kicked off with a high energy show from acclaimed session stylist, Peter Gray.

The fashion-world favourite was accompanied by a group of L'Oréal Professionnel Portfolio Session Stylists for his Rebel London show which combined couture techniques with avant garde flair and demonstrated the enormous versatility of hair pieces.

Peter's fashion credentials were firmly validated through his use of outfits fresh from Central St Martins MA graduate designers.

Next on stage was the evening's dapper host, television favourite Rick Edwards who welcomed the crowd to what he called, "the most fashionable event in British hairdressing." Rick, whose own fashion credentials include a monthly column in a glossy Sunday supplement, went on to say: "I thought tonight was just going to be about nice hair - but it's so much more. This event encapsulates hair inspired by fashion and all that comes with it."

With the welcome over, it was time to announce the first winners of the evening in the Young Colourist category. The seven regional winners who were announced will now go on to create the L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Academy 2012, which is designed to nurture young British colouring talent over a year of training and education.

Following a sumptuous dinner, the award-winning RUSH Artistic Team demonstrated their creative skills in their Triptych show. As well as a trio of high fashion looks encompassing spectacular colour, classical styling techniques and sculptural shapes, the presentation also included a mood-setting digital film installation by Doug Foster as well as a live performance throughout the set from rising star, Ruby Goe.

And while the evening's inspirational shows got everyone talking, the focus of the night was, of course, the resentation of the three prestigious awards; The L'Oréal Colour Trophy, the Men's Image Award and the Mizani Afro Catwalk Look.

Now in its fourth year and stronger than ever, the Mizani Afro Catwalk Look award was presented by Alan Richards to TONI&GUY, Regent Street for their vibrant violet-hued vertiginous quiff.

The Men's Image Award, presented by Richard Ward, was presented to BOB, Clapham Junction for an immaculately tailored crop with volume - a catwalk-worthy look which translates perfectly to high street trends too.

Finally it was time for the evening's main award; the L'Oréal Colour Trophy presented by Vincent Mercier, managing director, L'Oréal Professional Products Division. The prestigious first place went to Westrow, Westpark, Leeds for their interpretation of hair inspired by fashion - a blonde crop with a flash of violet through the fringe. Second place went to George's Hairdressing, Leicester for their retro-inspired brunette curled bob with third prize awarded to James Roberts Hair & Beauty, Manchester and their long auburn curls.

"We can see from tonight's finalists that the future of our industry is in safe hands," concluded Vincent, as the audience headed to the afterparty to celebrate the end of a five-month journey in style.
