L'oréal professionnel colour trophy 2011: winners announced
The grand final of the L'Oréal Colour Trophy returned to Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel for an evening of entertainment, fashion, and a celebration of some of the most talented hairdressers in the country.
Over 1,000 of the industry's most prominent names filled the Great Room, which had been transformed with a 45 meter white Perspex catwalk to set the scene for the fashion-forward theme of the evening.
The evening's entertainment kicked off with an energetic show from fashion week favourite Charlie Le Mindu, assisted by the L'Oréal Professionnel Portfolio team. With Lady Gaga's stylist, Anna Trevelyan, dressing the models the show combined colourful urban influences with dynamic and directional catwalk trends.
Next on stage was the evening's host, Radio One DJ Sarah Cox, who announced the first winners of the evening, the highly-anticipated Like Your Style prize. This consumer-focussed reality hairdressing competition, voted for on Facebook, was won by Rush Kingston who were voted by the public as the networking site's favourite salon duo.
New for 2011, the L'Oréal Young Colourist award was then awarded to seven rising hairdressing stars from across the country, who will now represent their respective regions in the L'Oréal Colour Academy which has been created to nurture and develop new talent in the industry.
The first half of the evening closed with a moving tribute to the late Terry Calvert, highlighting his involvement and dedication to the awards over the years.
And while the evening's inspirational shows got everyone talking, the focus of the night was, of course, on the ensuing presentation of the three prestigious awards; The L'Oréal Colour Trophy, the Men's Image Award and the Mizani Afro Catwalk Look.
Showcasing a clear comprehension of current trends, the Mizani Afro Catwalk Look award was presented by Errol Douglas to CRC Cutting Room Creative, Albion Street for their caramel crop inspired by Rihanna.
The Men's Image Award was of a particularly high standard, with Jason Miller of Charlie Miller announcing Trevor Sorbie, Covent Garden as winners for their dandy-inspired coiffed and curled style.
Finally it was time for the evening's main award; the L'Oréal Colour Trophy presented by Vincent Mercier, managing director, L'Oréal Professional Products Division. First prize went to Russell Eaton, Leeds for their artfully androgynous style which combined glamour with a gamine edge. Second place went to Rush, Walton-on-Thames, with third prize presented to Matthew Curtis Hair Design, Stratford-Upon-Avon.
"It feels amazing to have won," said Emily Scarth of Russell Eaton. "We have a fantastic team behind us and we've worked together to make this happen. It's a huge buzz for the whole salon."
